Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Against FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. - The Valiants played tough but ultimately came up short Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-0 to first place FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom matchup.

The Valiants were outshot 21-13 on the day, but trailed just 7-5 in shots that found the target on the afternoon.  In goal senior Norbi Bengyel (Budapest, Hungary/PEAC School for Elite Athletes) stopped five shots but the effort was not enough, as the Devils (6-6-3, 4-1 MAC Freedom) found the back of the net twice in the second half to down the Valiants (9-7-0, 2-3 MAC Freedom).

After the two teams played a scoreless first half, the Devils broke through in the 66th minute when Connor McIntyre put home a rebound to give FDU the 1-0 advantage.  The Devils put the game out of reach with just over three minutes remaining on a goal from Dylan Meyler.

Junior Christoffer Staahl (Lulea, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln) led the Valiants with three shots on goal in the game, with sophomore Michael Jean-Charles (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and senior Rob Hammerle (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) each adding a shot on goal.

With the loss, the Valiants remain with six points in the conference standings and will likely need a win in their final two games of the season as they look to return to the MAC Freedom postseason.

The first of those two games comes Saturday when the Valiants take on Delaware Valley University for Senior Day with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 pm.  Prior to the game, the Valiants will honor their six graduating seniors, as well as the innauguration of Manhattanville President, Dr. Michael Geisler.
