PURCHASE, N.Y. - On a rain soaked evening in Purchase, the Manhattanville men's soccer team was unable solve the Misericordia defensive scheme, falling for the first time in MAC Freedom action 2-0 to Misericordia University Saturday evening.
The Valiants (8-5 overall, 1-1 MAC Freedom) were outshot 12-5 on the night and were forced to defend 11 corners while having just two of their own.
After a back and forth first half where neither team was able to muster a shot on goal, Misericordia (7-4-1 overall, 2-0 MAC Freedom) finally broke through in the 75th minute when Devin Marriott finished off a cross from Dante Ippolito for his first goal of the season to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later the Cougars struck again, putting the game out of reach on Tristan Wright's first goal of the season.
Attempting to get offense going after conceding the two goals, the Valiants recorded three shots, including a diving header by senior
Omar Parra (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) that was deflected just wide of the target by Misericordia goalkeeper Matt Smith to keep the Misericordia lead.
The Valiants will look to snap their two-game skid on Tuesday when they travel to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales University at 3:00 pm.
