COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton High School) led the Manhattanville College women's volleyball team with 25 kills on .442 hitting as the Valiants swept host Ursinus College to salvage a split of the Ursinus Tri-Match, held on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants fell to Johns Hopkins University in three sets to start the day.
Reid posted 25 kills and only six errors on 43 attempts in the six sets. She was helped by classmate
Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King), who recorded 21 kills and hit .314 while matching her teammate with four blocks. Senior
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) led the Valiants with 51 assists and 19 digs on the day as well.
Reid and Mackey were huge for Manhattanville in the second match of the day, combining for 31 kills on .518 hitting as the Valiants swept the host Bears, 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-18).
Reid was nearly unstoppable for the Valiants in the win, tying her career high with 18 kills on just 25 attempts for a stellar .640 hitting percentage. Mackey also was very efficient as well, putting down 13 kills on 29 attempts (.414 hitting) while also registering a match-high four blocks. Quinabo added a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs as well.
As a team, Manhattanville hit .323 with 40 kills and only nine errors on 96 attempts, recording at least 12 kills in each set. Down 7-5 in the opening set, the Valiants went on a 9-2 run to gain control for the first time and take an early lead. A 13-2 run to close the second set blew open what was a one-point advantage, as the visitors hit .364 with 13 kills and only one error in taking a two-set lead. The Valiants lead almost from start to finish in the final stanza to complete the sweep.
In the first match of the day, Manhattanville battled against a tough Johns Hopkins squad before falling in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-23).
Mackey led the Valiants with eight kills, followed by Reid with seven kills and a match-high three blocks. Quinabo chipped in two team-best totals with 18 assists and nine digs.
Manhattanville (10-6) will get back into MAC Freedom play on Wednesday, as the Valiants host Delaware Valley University in another huge conference clash at Kennedy Gym beginning at 7 p.m.
