Deieso's Red-Hot Night Leads Valiants to 21-Point Rout of Oneonta

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Brittany Deieso (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) went off for a career-best 21 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc as the Valiants routed SUNY Oneonta 52-31 Thursday evening at Kennedy Gymnasium in their final home game of the 2016 calendar year.

Deieso was on fire all night, draining 9-of-12 field goal attempts on the evening, while hauling in five rebounds, adding three steals, two assists, and one block.  Her 21 points bested her previous high by eight points, a 13-point performance against SUNY Old Westbury earlier this season.  Freshman Nancy Caballero (Henderson, Nev./Liberty) was a force on the glass once again for Manhattanville, hauling in 14 rebounds, five on the offensive end, to match her career high set in her collegiate debut.

The Valiants (4-3) stormed out of the gates Thursday, outscoring the Red Dragons (5-3) 23-3 in the opening frame to take a commanding 20-point lead into the first brake.  Deieso and fellow senior Sarah Kelley (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) combined for 15 points in the frame, with Kelley scoring all eight of her points in the opening quarter.  The Valiants held the Red Dragons to just 1-of-12 shooting in the period, while the Valiants went 9-of-15 on their end.  Deieso capped off the big opening frame by hitting a half-court heave at the buzzer to give the home squad the 20-point edge.

The roles reversed however in the second quarter, as the Red Dragons held Manhattanville to just four points in the second quarter, but could add just ten points themselves, giving the cardinal and black a 27-13 lead at the midway point of the contest.

In the third, Deieso and the Valiants continued to roll, increasing their lead by four by outscoring the Red Dragons 16-10 in the quarter.  After just two points in the first half, Caballero added five points in the frame, and Deieso hit another shot at the buzzer, this time a three from the corner pocket to give her six points in the period.  The senior added her final four points in the final frame, as Manahttanville held on for the 21-point win against a tough non-conference foe.

The Valiants will take to the road for the remainder of the calendar year, as they travel to the College of Staten Island on December 28 before rounding out 2016 with a road contest against Colby-Sawyer on December 30.
