Late Aggie Run Dooms Valiants

PURCHASE, N.Y. – A late run by Delaware Valley spoiled Manhattanville's chances to avenge a 33-point loss earlier this season as the Valiants fell to the Aggies 65-57 Wednesday evening at home.

Senior Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) once again tied her career-high with 22 points to lead Manhattanville (13-6, 5-4 MAC Freedom), and classmate Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) added an additional 15 points for the Valiants, but their efforts were not enough as Delaware Valley (10-10, 6-3 MAC Freedom) was able to pull away late to move into third place in the MAC Freedom standings.

The Valiants led after the first quarter, but a 20-point output by the Aggies gave Delaware Valley a four-point lead at the halftime break.   The game would remain even for most of the third quarter before the Aggies went on a 9-0 run to begin the fourth quarter.  The Valiants were unable to get a shot to drop to begin the quarter, while the Aggies started the quarter 3-4 from the field, including four points from Sam Foy to give them a 12-point lead with 6:45 to play.

Manhattanville would respond with a 9-3 run of their own, capped off by a huge three-pointer from Raaf, to cut the deficit to six.  After the Valiants were unable to score on their next possession, Delaware Valley closed out the game with free throws from Eireann Anastasia and Danielle Skedzielewski to pick up the win.

Manhattanville will travel to Pennsylvania on Saturday to take on King's College as they attempt to keep hold of their current fourth-place position in the MAC Freedom standings.
