Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) set a new career high with seven goals and eight points to lead head coach
Tricia Molfetta to her first collegiate victory as the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team defeated Centenary (N.J.) College by an 18-9 score in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
Dalsey had a huge game for Manhattanville (1-1), scoring seven goals on just eight shots and adding an assist for eight points. Freshman
Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) also scored four goals and controlled a game-high six draws for the visitors, while sophomores
Christina Leva (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake),
AnnaMarie Nardone (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) and
Katie Zambrotta (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) all added two goals apiece.
Nardone opened the scoring 4:44 into the contest with a shot from the eight-meter arc, but Centenary came back with two in a row to grab its first lead at 2-1. However, Zambrotta single-handedly put the Valiants back up, scoring twice in 15 seconds to give Manhattanville a 3-2 lead.
The visitors held a 4-3 lead with 16:51 to go in the half before rattling off the final seven goals of the frame to take an 11-3 advantage into the intermission. Dalsey started the run with a free-position score at the 15:36 mark, followed by a score from Leva and three more from Dalsey sandwiched between another Nardone eight-meter strike. Reilly capped the half by finding the net with three seconds left to five the Valiants an eight-goal edge at the half.
After 30 minutes, Manhattanville had outshot Centenary by a 25-9 margin and also controlled 10 of the 15 draws.
The Valiants kept up the offensive attack in the second half, with the team scoring four of the stanza's first six goals to open up a game-high 10-goal lead at 15-5 with 19:07 remaining in the contest on a score from sophomore
Jennifer Machin (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy). Reilly added two more goals and Dalsey scored once more as well as the visitors closed out the win.
Junior
Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) picked up her first win of the year by making three saves on seven shots over the first 36:05 before freshman
Alana Lopez (Wolcott, Conn./Vermont Academy) came on for the final 23:55, making seven saves on 12 shots.
For the game, Manhattanville posted a 45-25 edge in shots, as well as a decisive 32-13 advantage in ground balls.
Manhattanville will play its first home game of the 2016 season on Sunday, when the Valiants host New England College at GoValiants.com Field beginning at 3 p.m.
