RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Junior
Colin Morrissey (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) scored a career-high five goals and the Valiant defense shutout the Dolphins in the second half to lead Manahttanville to a 13-4 victory over Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon.
Morrissey scored four of his five goals in the first half, and added the final tally just over a minute and a half into the second half. The attacker also added two assists on the day for a Valiant season-high seven points on the afternoon, and recorded a team best six ground balls as well. Freshman
Erik Sparby (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) continued his impressive play this week, netting two goals and recording three assists against the Dolphins after recording six points against Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday. Junior goalkeeper
Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) also had a strong day in between the pipes for the Valiants. Hoffman tied his season-high with 15 saves on 19 shots on goal, allowing just four goals on the afternoon.
Manhattanville (3-2 overall) remained unbeaten on the year in games in which they score first, netting the game's first goal just over a minute into the contest with Morrissey's first of the afternoon. Sophomore
Tyler Bentrewicz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) put the Valiants up by two at the 6:56 mark with his fourth goal of the season. After allowing a goal on the man-advantage, the Valiants responded with two more goals to increase their lead to 4-1.
The Valiants and Dolphins(1-6 overall) went back and forth with the next five goals, before Manhattanville scored the final seven goals of the game to come away with the 13-4 victory.
Manhattanville returns to action Wednesday when they travel to United States Merchant Marine Academy. Faceoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
