PURCHASE, N.Y. – Junior
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) had a record setting day for Manhattanville as the Valiants defeated FDU-Florham 15-6 to remain unbeaten at home this season.
Lynch blasted two homeruns and drove in a school record nine runs on the day, surpassing the previous mark of eight RBI's set by Chris Marker in 1995. With his second homerun, Lynch surpassed 100 RBI's for his career, becoming the 11th Valiant to reach that plateau and the first since assistant coach
Chris Nardozzi in 2012.
FDU (5-9-1 overall, 1-3 MAC Freedom) got on the board first when Reynaldo Diaz singled home a run in the top of the first, but Lynch answered for Manhattanville in the bottom half of the frame with a two run double off the center field fence. After the Devils tied the game 3-3 in the third, the Valiants responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from senior
Jake McGrath (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane), a bases-loaded walk from junior
Chris Conklin (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland), and an RBI single from sophomore
Danny Gallagher (Nanuet, N.Y./Paramus Catholic). Manhattanville continued to roll, scoring for the fourth consecutive inning when senior
Chris Lattarulo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) drove home junior
John Delahanty (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) to make the score 7-3.
Lynch broke the game open in the fifth, launching a three run homerun to left field to make it a 10-3 game. He followed up the blast with a grand slam in the sixth to make it 15-4 and put the game away for good.
On the mound, sophomore
Pat Badia (Somers, N.Y./Somers) earned his second win of the season after throwing 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs. Hard-throwing classmate
Dennis Berardi (Brewster, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) was effective out of the bullpen for the Valiants (9-6 overall, 3-1 MAC Freedom), going 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Sophomore
John Fanelli (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) rounded out the day by pitching the ninth inning, striking out two batters. Starting pitcher Kenny Carrier took the loss for the Devils.
Lynch was not the only Valiant to have success at the plate Friday. Conklin finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in one and scoring three runs. Senior
Jordanis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) went 4-for-5 at the dish, recording two RBI's and two runs scored, and freshman
Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) also recorded three hits on the day for Manhattanville.
The Valiants will look to secure the season series tomorrow when they travel to FDU-Florham for a double-header matchup with the Devils. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 P.M.
