Baseball Continues Hot Streak With 11-8 Win Over Old Westbury

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Seniors Jordanis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) and Jake McGrath (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane) and junior Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) each drove in two runs apiece to lead the Valiants past Old Westbury 11-8 Wednesday to remain unbeaten at home this season.

The Valiants (12-6 overall) improve to 11-1 on the year since returning from Spring Break.  Junior John Moschetti (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) thre six innings in the start for the Valiants, scattering six hits without allowing a run.  After the Panthers (13-8 overall) scored six runs in the seventh inning, sophomore Dennis Berardi (Brewster, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) shut the door over the final two innings to secure the victory for the Valiants.

The Valiants scored at least once in the first four innings, garnering the lead on an RBI single from Nunez.  After plating three runs in the second and a single run in the third, Manhattanville scored six runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.  Lynch got the scoring started with a two run double to center field.  Nunez traded places with Lynch in the following at bat with a double down the right field line to make it an 8-0 game.  Freshman Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) brought in Nunez with an RBI single to center field and McGrath capped off the rally with a two run single to centerfield to make it 11-0 after four innings.

The Panthers scored six runs in the seventh inning, but sophomore John Fanelli (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) worked out of the jam to keep the Valiant advantage at five runs.  Berardi came on in relief in the eighth inning to complete the game, allowing two runs over his two innings of work to help the Valiants secure the 11-8 win.

Moschetti picked up his second win of the season for the Valiants.  Trey Pizzutello took the loss for the Panthers.

Manhattanville returns to action this weekend when they take on first place Misericordia University in a huge MAC Freedom showdown.  The Valiants will travel to Dallas, Pa. for the first leg of the series on Friday before hosting the Cougars in a double header on Saturday.
