PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team recorded their first shutout since 2002 and surpassed their 2015 win total with a 17-0 victory over Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.
The Valiants (5-2 overall) not only controlled the tempo of the game on the offensive end, registering 45 shots on the day, but also played exceptional defense on the other end of the field. Junior
Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) and freshman
Alana Lopez (Wolcott, Conn./Vermont Academy) combined to make 12 saves on the day to hold the Dolphins (0-6 overall) scoreless.
On the offensive end, sophomore
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) led the Valiant attack with six points on four goals and two assists. Senior
Chloe Gauthier (Oceanside, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), juniors
Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) and
Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City), and freshman
Diana Bajraktari (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) each netted two goals apiece in the win.
For Gauthier and Bajraktari, the goals were their first of the season, and for Bajraktari the first of her career. Senior
Grace Kraemer (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and junior
Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) also found the back of the net for the first time this season.
Manhattanville controlled the game from the very beginning, jumping on top with a goal from Nance on the man advantage less than two minutes into the game. The Valiants netted nine more goals in the half to take a 10-0 lead into the halftime break.
The story remained the same for Manhattanville in the second half. The Valiants scored seven more times en route to their fifth victory of the season.
The historic start for the Valiants continues with the win. Manhattanville now has more wins on the season than they did in 2015 when they went 4-11 on the year. The last time the team started 5-2 was in 2009 when they went on to compile an 11-6 record.
The Valiants return to action Saturday when they host Ramapo at GoValiants.com Field. That game is scheduled to start at 1:00 P.M.
