Valiants Drop Two to DeSales in MAC Freedom Play

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville College baseball team struggled to kickstart its high-powered offense Sunday, dropping two games to DeSales University in MAC Freedom play.

Freshman Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) led the Valiants with two hits on the day.  Juniors Chris Conklin (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland), John Delahanty (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), and Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep), senior Chris Lattarulo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills), and freshman Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) each drove in one run each on the day.

GAME ONE:  The Valiants (14-9 overall, 6-4 MAC Freedom) fell behind the Bulldogs (15-9 overall, 7-3 MAC Freedom) early on after DeSales plated eight runs in the second inning.  The Valiants got a run back in the bottom of the second on a Delahanty RBI groundout.  After the Bulldogs matched that run in the top of the third, Manhattanville got three back in their at bat to make it a 9-4 game.

The Bulldogs plated six more runs in the sixth inning to pull away for good, dropping the Valiants 15-4 in game one.

GAME TWO:  DeSales starting pitcher Chris Zampini took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in game two before Anselmi beat out an infield hit to shortstop for the Valiants first tally of the day.  After falling behind 5-0, the Valiants attempted to mount a comeback with Scoggins following up the infield hit with a laser to right center to put two runners on base.  Lattarulo's groundout brought home Anselmi to make it 5-1, the Valiants could not put any more runs across, dropping game two 5-1.

The two losses were the first two at home this season for Manhattanville.  They will look to get back on track on Thursday when they travel to Western Connecticut State at 5:00 P.M.
