DALLAS, Pa. – Misericordia University's Erin Baker scored a game-high six goals as the Cougars defeated the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team by a 15-2 score in both teams' 2016 MAC Freedom opener on Sunday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Manhattanville (5-5, 0-1 MAC Freedom) struggled offensively on the afternoon, as Misericordia (4-6, 1-0 MAC Freedom) outshot the Valiants by a 37-14 margin. Junior
Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) matched her career high with 16 saves for the visitors, but it was not enough to overcome a strong MU attack.
Junior
Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) opened the scoring 2:55 into the contest with her fifth goal of the season, off a feed from sophomore
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac). However, the Valiants managed only one more score for the remainder of the contest, with Weiss finding the net with 4:56 left in the first half to make the score 5-2.
Misericordia scored the final three goals of the first half to go into the break with an 8-2 lead, and then outscored Manhattanville 7-0 over the final 30 minutes to finish off the contest.
The Valiants will continue MAC Freedom play on Wednesday, when the team returns home to host FDU-Florham for a 6 p.m. opening draw at GoValiants.com Field.
