Cassidy's Career Night Not Enough for Women's Lacrosse

PURCHASE, N.Y. – A late first half push from the Devils proved to be too much for the Valiants to overcome as women's lacrosse fell to FDU-Florham 15-6 Wednesday evening.

Freshman Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and sophomore Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) each scored two goals to lead the Valiants on the offensive end.  Freshman Alex Breen (South Windsor, Conn./Kingswood Oxford School) added her first career goal in the loss.  Between the pipes, junior Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made a career-high 18 saves but the Valiants were unable to overcome the high pressure from the Devil offense.

The Valiants (5-6 overall, 0-2 MAC Freedom) jumped out to an early lead when freshman Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) scored her first goal of the game just over three minutes into the game but the Devils (6-6 overall, 2-0 MAC Freedom) quickly responded.  FDU scored twice in 34 seconds to take the lead before Reilly found the back of the net once again to level the score.

FDU took control over the next 20 minutes, scoring the next eight goals of the contest before freshman Alex Breen (South Windsor, Conn./Kingswood Oxford School) scored a goal with one second remaining in the half to make it a 10-3 game after the first 30 minutes of play.

In the second half, the Devils scored the first three goals of the period before the Valiants responded with two goals from sophomore Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac).  Junior Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) cut the deficit to seven goals but the Devils scored the game's final two goals to come away with the 15-6 win.

Manhattanville returns to action Saturday when they travel to Eastern University in search of their first MAC Freedom victory of the season.
