MADISON, N.J. – Senior
Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) scored two goals but the Valiants were outpowered by FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom matchup Wednesday evening.
Normandin paced the offensive attack for Manhattanville, scoring twice in the second half for two of the team's three goals. Sophomore
Tyler Bentrewicz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) also tallied a goal and sophomore
Christian Flores (Avon, Conn./Avon) added an assist in the loss. Junior goalkeeper
Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) made 11 saves on the night but ultimately took the loss Wednesday.
FDU-Florham (3-7 overall, 1-1 MAC Freedom) jumped ahead in the opening period by scoring the game's first three goals. Bentrewicz put the Valiants (3-8, 0-2 MAC Freedom) on the board with his 17th goal of the season. The two teams played the final 17:35 of the half scoreless and entered the halftime break with Manhattanville trailing 3-1.
The scoring draught continued in the third quarter, as neither team was able to score in the period. FDU-Florham scored 12 seconds into the final quarter for the game's first goal in 32:47 of action. The Devils added to their lead with a goal at the 11:12 mark of the quarter to lead 5-1. After another Devil goal, Normandin cut the deficit to four goals with his fifth goal of the season.
The two teams traded goals with Normandin finding the back of the net for his second goal of the game to make the score 7-3. Normandin's strike proved to be the final tally of the game as the Valiants fell to the Devils 7-3.
The Valiants will look to pick up their first conference win of the season Saturday when they travel to Wilkes University.
