Men's Lacrosse Suffers 17-7 Loss to Eastern

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Freshman Sam Hahn (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) scored his first career goal and junior goalkeeper Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) made 19 saves but the Valiants were unable to overcome the four-time defending conference champion Eagles of Eastern University, falling 17-7 at home Wednesday evening.

Hahn's goal came ten seconds into the final quarter, scooping up a ground ball off a faceoff and went directly to goal, beating two Eastern defenders along the way.  Senior Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) matched his season-high with two goals on the night and sophomore Tyler Bentrewicz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) also found the back of the net twice for the Valiants (4-9 overall, 1-3 MAC Freedom).  Junior Ed Motherway (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and sophomore Jacob Cayton (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) each scored once for Manhattanville to round out their seven goal output.

In the faceoff circle, freshman Brandon Neff (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) went 10-18 for the Valiants, adding one ground ball.  Defensively, Cayton, Hahn, and freshman Soya Goto (Rye, N.Y./Rye) each recorded two ground balls on the night to lead Manhattanville.  Cayton also caused one Eastern turnover.  In goal, Hoffman was busy all night as the Eagles (9-5 overall, 4-0 MAC Freedom) recorded 49 shots on the night, 36 on target.  Despite the 19 saves, Eastern found the back of the net 17 times to come away with the victory.

The Valiants return to action on Saturday when they travel to fourth-place Delaware Valley as they look to pick up their second conference victory of the season.  Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
