DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A slow start offensively doomed the Valiant men's lacrosse team Saturday, as Manhattanville fell to Delaware Valley 18-7 in a MAC Freedom matchup.
Junior
Ed Seganti (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) made his first career start in goal for the Valiants (4-10 overall, 1-4 MAC Freedom) making 11 saves in his debut. Sophomore
Tyler Bentrewicz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) led the attack offensively, scoring twice and adding an assist for a three-point output. Senior
Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) and junior
Ed Motherway (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) each scored twice, and sophomore
Robby Schartner (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and freshman
Erik Sparby (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) added one goal apiece for the Valiants.
Defensively sophomore
Chris Ayson (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) recorded three ground balls and freshman
Kai Zimmerman (Zofingen/Switzerland) caused a turnover in the loss. In the faceoff circle, junior
Irving Hernandez (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and freshman
Brandon Neff (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) combined for 10 faceoff wins on the day.
Delaware Valley (7-6 overall, 3-2 MAC Freedom) took control early in the game, leading 5-1 after the first quarter and 10-1 at the halftime break. The Valiants tried fighting back in the second half but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome, as Manhattanville were unable to get within eight goals of the Aggies.
The Valiants will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday when they travel to DeSales University for their second to last game of the regular season. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. in Center Valley.
