DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Despite nine saves from junior goalkeeper
Kaitlin Halloran (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East), the Manhattanville College field hockey team dropped their opening MAC Freedom matchup to Delaware Valley 1-0 Friday evening.
After fending off 10 shots in the first half, the Manhattanville (5-4, 0-1 MAC Freedom) defense bowed for the game's lone goal in the final minute of the first half when Delaware Valley's Timera Brooks-Watts beat Halloran with a shot from the top of the circle off of a penalty corner.
The Valiants fought back in the second half, holding the Aggies (4-5, 1-0 MAC Freedom) to just two shots on goal in the final 35 minutes. The Valiants got four shots on cage in the final period, but were turned away by Rosie Bishop each time. Their best opportunity came with 94 seconds remaining, when senior
Bregje Smits (Bussum, Netherlands/Willen de Zwigger College) fired a shot off of a penalty corner that was deflected by freshman
Maisey Kettlewood (Nottingham, N.H./Dover), but Bishop once again made the save to give Delaware Valley the 1-0 win.
The Valiants are back in action on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:00 pm when they travel to Ramapo College for a non-conference game.
