Women's Soccer Rolls to 4-1 Victory Over Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. – Four different Valiants scored as the Manhattanville College women's soccer team defeated Lehman College 4-1 Wednesday evening in their final matchup before entering MAC Freedom play this weekend.

Manhattanville (3-5-1 overall) outshot Lehman (4-4 overall) 14-7 for the game despite trailing 5-2 in corner kicks.

It took just under two minutes for the Valiants to take the lead as sophomore Ashley Heis (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) took off for a breakaway after a steal and finished low on the right side for her first career goal, giving Manhattanville a 1-0 advantage.  11 minutes later, classmate Lauren Vallarelli (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) put home a ball from fellow sophomore Evaline Diaz (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) to make it a 2-0 advantage that Manhattanville would take into the halftime break.

In the second half, sophomore Dany Swidler (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) scored on a free kick from the top of the penalty box to make it 3-0 in favor of Manhattanville.  After a Lehman goal in the 66th minute, senior Kerri Durkin (Mahopac, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Catholic) again scored on a free kick for the 4-1 final score.

Senior Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) made eight saves to pick up her third win of the season, and also moved into sole possession of fifth place all-time at the school with her 15th career victory as a Valiant.

Manhattanville will look to keep the momentum in its favor when they travel to Pennsylvania for their opening MAC Freedom matchup against the Eagles of Eastern University on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
