Men's Soccer Battles FDU-Florham to Scoreless Draw

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team battled FDU-Florham to a scoreless draw Tuesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field in MAC Freedom Conference action.

Two years to the day of their last regular season draw (also a 0-0 final), Manhattanville (6-8-1, 1-3-1 MAC Freedom) held slight advantages in shots (20-14), shots on goal (9-8) and corner kicks (6-5), but were unable to find the back of the net against FDU-Florham (2-11-1, 2-2-1), who entered the match having allowed just two goals in their previous four matches.

The draw keeps Manhattanville's postseason hopes alive, as the Valiants are just three points behind FDU-Florham and Misericordia University for fourth place in the conference standings with two matches still to go. The Valiants will likely have to win their final two matches and receive some help in order to reach the postseason.

Sophomore Cristian Araujo (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) and Jon Kyriakidis (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Pleasantville) led Manhattanville's attack with four shots and three shots, respectively, while senior Jeff Santos (Yonkers, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and freshman Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil) added two apiece, but FDU-Florham's Liam Ryan made nine saves to keep the Valiants off the board.

Manhattanville senior Robin Schaufele (Kalix, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln) nearly delivered the Valiants a winner midway through the second overtime, but his header from about 10 yards out hit the crossbar and was cleared off the line by the Devils.

Justin Barbosa's three shots led the way for FDU-Florham, who pressured Manhattanville sophomore goalkeeper Tim Carsting (Falun, Sweden/Soltorgsgymnasiet) into eight saves, including three in a five-minute span in the first half. Both Carsting and Ryan made three saves across the two extra-time sessions.

The Valiants are on the road Saturday against Delaware Valley at 2:30 pm, then return to GoValiants.com Field Saturday, October 28 for Senior Day against Wilkes at 3:30 p.m.
