PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team continued to struggle offensively, as the Valiants dropped a 2-0 decision to FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.
Sophomore
Bella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) kept Manhattanville (3-8-1, 0-5-0 MAC Freedom) in the match by turning aside a career-best 12 shots, but it was not enough against a forceful FDU-Florham (9-6-0, 2-3-0 MAC Freedom) attack that outshot the home team by a 22-3 margin.
The Valiants hung with the Devils for the first half, with the only blemish a rocket from 40 yards out off the foot of Tatiana Nieto that somehow snuck under the crossbar in the 16th minute. Manhattanville limited FDU to only five shots in the opening 45 minutes of play, with Beltrami making four saves to keep it a one-goal margin at intermission.
The Devils got an insurance goal in the 48th minute, when Lindsey Scarmozzino came in from the right endline and sent a pass through the box to a waiting Kristina Ragolia, who tapped the ball into an empty net. FDU-Florham kept up the offensive attack after that, attempting 17 shots in total during the second half, but eight Beltrami saves and several off-target attempts limited the damage the rest of the way.
Manhattanville will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, when the Valiants travel to Delaware Valley University for their final road game of the 2017 season beginning at noon.
