DANBURY, CT – Trailing 3-0 with 30 minutes to play, the Manhattanville College field hockey team rallied late, but eventually dropped a 3-2 decision to Western Connecticut State University Wednesday night in non-conference play, their fourth one-goal loss of the season.
Sophomore
Robin Boot (Bedum, Netherlands/H.N. Werkman College) recorded her third goal of the season eight minutes into the second half for Manhattanville (2-9), and junior
Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y./Rye) added her seventh goal of the season with just over two minutes remaining, but the Valiants were unable to complete the rally from the early deficit.
The Colonials (4-8) managed just three shots on Manhatanville's senior goalkeeper
Kaitlin Halloran (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East) in the first half, but found the back of the net with two of them; Carly Matasavage and Amanda Spano each scored in the first 20 minutes of the match, their fourth and first goals of the season, respectively. Western Connecticut's defense held Manhatanville to just a single first half shot from Antinozzi.
Matasavage added her second of the match five minutes into the second half for what wound up being the game-winner after Boot and Antinozzi's goals closed the gap. The two teams finished the night with seven shots each, with Western Connecticut holding a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The Valiants return home, and to conference play, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Delaware Valley in the Play 4 The Cure Game.
