ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Three Valiants finished in double-figures but it was not enough to lead Manhattanville past Eastern University in MAC Freedom action Saturday, falling to the Eagles 59-50.
Sophomore
Kayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) led the Valiant scoring effort, netting 16 points on the afternoon. Fellow classmate
Ivy Coles (Freeport, N.Y./Christ The King) chipped in 11 and senior
Brittany Deieso (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) added ten points for the Valiants. Junior
Kelsey Decker (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney) added eight points off the bench for Manhattanville and classmate
Joiada Darnell (St. Albans, N.Y./Humanities and the Arts) hauled in a team-best seven rebounds. Eastern was led by Taylor Price who scored a game-high 24 points and Emily Lavin added seven blocks for the Eagles.
Manhattanville fell behind 12-2 in the early goings when the Eagles scored twelve unanswered after McGuire scored the opening bucket of the contest. The Valiants came storming back however, cutting the deficit to one point at 14-13 with 7:49 to play in the first half. That is as close as the crimson and black would come the rest of the way however, as Eastern pulled ahead by as many as 12 points with 5:37 to play in the fourth quarter, and held on down the stretch for the nine-point victory.
With the loss Manhattanville slips to 4-8 in MAC Freedom play while Eastern improves back to .500 at 6-6 on the year. The Valiants will wrap up their regular season with two home matchups this week when they play host to the Devils of FDU-Florham on Tuesday before finishing with a matchup against Misericordia on Senior Day next Saturday.
