SWEET BRIAR, Va. – A program-record 14 different players scored at least one goal as the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team completed an undefeated Spring Break trip with a commanding 21-3 victory over Sweet Briar College on Saturday afternoon at Babcock Field.
It was a total team effort for Manhattanville (2-2) on the day, as the Valiants smashed the previous record of 10 different goal scorers achieved on at least eight different occasions, with the last coming on March 30, 2016 against the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The team's 14 different players with a point also are a new program standard, surpassing the previous mark of 12 set on April 6, 2010 versus King's (Pa.) College.
Junior
Jennifer Machin (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) scored only once but still led Manhattanville in points thanks to a career-high four assists. Senior
Arianna Kreush (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and junior
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) both had three goals and an assist each, while seniors
Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) and
Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) had two goals and an assist apiece as well to lead the well-rounded attack.
The Valiants were red-hot to start the game, scoring on their first 11 shots to take an 11-1 lead at the midway point of the first half. Nance and Weiss scored 16 seconds apart in the opening minute to set the tone, and then Machin had a hand in three of the next four goals with a score and assists on tallies by Nance and junior
Katie Zambrotta (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) to help the visitors to a 6-0 lead just 3:41 into the contest.
After Sweet Briar got on the board, Manhattanville came back with the next seven goals, including two each from Kreush and sophomore
Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and one apiece from seniors
AnnaMarie Nardone (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) and
M.J. Caro (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) and junior
Christina Leva (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake).
Senior
Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) finished off the half with her first of the year to put the Valiants up 14-2 at intermission. The visitors held a 23-3 advantage in shots over the first 30 minutes as well, as 11 different players scored in the half.
Manhattanville took its foot off the gas considerably in the second half, but still managed to put seven more goals in the back of the net. Sophomore
Evaline Diaz (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) became the 12th different Valiant to score with 18:15 to go, while sophomore
Bri Johnson (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) and freshman
Lexy DeLeo (Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt) finished off the scoring with the first goals of their respective careers.
The Valiants finished the game with a 33-4 edge in total shots, including a 25-3 edge in shots on goal.
Manhattanville will look to keep the winning streak going on Wednesday, when the Valiants return north to take on Ramapo College beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Mahwah.
