Weiss Reaches 100 Career Points as Women's Lax Cruises Past St. Joseph's, 11-4

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had a game-high five points to reach the century mark for her career as the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team defeated St. Joseph's (L.I.) College by an 11-4 score in the team's long-awaited home opener on Thursday evening at GoValiants.com Field.

Weiss had a milestone game for Manhattanville (4-3), scoring once and adding a career-high four assists to give her an even 100 points for her career, 84 of which have come in the last two years at Manhattanville after registering 16 points in her freshman season at Div. I LIU-Brooklyn. With her four assists, Weiss also moved into a tie for 11th in program history with 27 helpers in less than two years at the school.

The junior was not the only Valiant to have a great game on Thursday. Senior Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) led all scorers with four goals, while classmate Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) had four points as well with three goals and an assist to go with four ground balls, a game-high four caused turnovers and three draw controls. Sophomore Evaline Diaz (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) picked up a game-high six ground balls, while senior Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) tied for the game high with four draw controls as well in a well-rounded effort for the home team.

The Valiants struck first just 15 seconds into the game, as Weiss controlled the opening draw and then ran all the way behind the net before feeding Nance for the put away. After the Golden Eagles evened the score, Manhattanville came back with the next six goals to take a 7-1 lead with 15:00 to go in the opening half. Nance and Weiss both scored from the eight-meter arc to start the run, followed by two goals in 26 seconds from Nance and Dalsey to double the Valiant advantage.

Dalsey kept the streak going off a feed from junior Jennifer Machin (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) at the 16:10 mark before sophomore Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) added her first of the game with exactly 15:00 left. The Valiants went into the half with a 9-4 advantage after goals from Dalsey and senior AnnaMarie Nardone (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) late in the frame.

Manhattanville shut out St. Joseph's in the second half, limiting the Golden Eagles to only five shots over the final 30 minutes. The three shots that did go on target were denied by senior Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), who finished the game with nine saves on 13 shots.

The Valiants ended the night with a 29-18 edge in shots, including a 13-5 advantage in the second half. The home team also dominated on the draws, controlling 13 of 16, while also going 16-of-18 on clearance attempts.
