The Valiants fell behind early in the first, allowing two goals in the first 4:10 of game action and the Golden Eagles won all seven faceoffs in the opening stanza to control the possession battle. After Murray tied the score two, Saint Josephs tallied two goals in 78 seconds to hold a two-goal lead at the end of the first quarter. Manhattanville came storming back in the second, netting two goals in 32 seconds to level the score and took the lead moments later on Duval's fourth strike of the season. Saint Joseph's played spoiler late in the half however, scoring with 11 seconds remaining to make it a 5-5 game at the halftime break.
The Golden Eagles took a two-goal lead in the third quarter before Murray struck for the fourth time in the game to cut the deficit down to one goal but Saint Joseph's struck again late in the frame and held an 8-6 lead with 15 minutes to play.
The fourth quarter was all Manhattanville early, as the Valiants took seven of the first eight shots of the period. Four different Valiants ripped down the net in the quarter as Motherway, and Duval beat Yoli to tie things up before Green gave the Valiants the lead and Caccavo scored the eventual game-winner 29 seconds later. The Golden Eagles made it a one-goal game with 3:54 to play but Hoffman made two big saves in the final 97 seconds to secure the victory for Manhattanville.
The Valiants bounce back to .500 at 1-1 with the win while the Golden Eagles slip to 1-1 as well with the loss. Manhattanville returns to action on Wednesday when they host the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent at GoValiants.com Field with faceoff scheduled for 6:00 pm.
