Women's Lacrosse Subdues Cyclones, 20-7, in Non-Conference Finale

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Eleven different Valiants recorded at least one point and 10 different players found the back of the net as the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team finished off non-conference play with a 20-7 win over Centenary (N.J.) University on Tuesday night at GoValiants.com Field.

Junior Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and sophomore Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) led Manhattanville (7-4) with four goals and five points apiece and Reilly added six ground balls, while senior Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) added three goals and an assist and senior Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) earned a career-high 10 draw controls.

Classmate Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) also filled up the stat sheet with a goal, seven draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. In the process, the senior became the school's all-time leader in draw controls with 188, surpassing the previous record of 185 set by Casandra Honovich '14.

The Valiants dominated play for most of the night against Centenary (2-8), finishing with a 48-17 edge in shots and controlling 19 of 28 draws. The Valiants also posted a 29-14 advantage in ground balls, as the home team held possession for a majority of the evening.

Manhattanville scored the first three goals of the contest, two coming from Nance and one from Reilly, before Abby Voelkner scored two of her team-leading three goals to get the Cyclones back within one at the 9:13 mark of the half.

But the Valiants closed the half with eight of the last nine goals to take an 11-3 lead into intermission. Seven different players scored for the home team during the run, which included six straight goals to end the frame. Junior Jennifer Machin (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) started the six-goal stretch with her fourth goal of the year and senior M.J. Caro (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) finished it with her second of the season with 1:14 remaining.

After the two teams traded goals to start the second half, Manhattanville rattled off six straight scores to put the game away. Reilly started the run with her third of the game with 21:56 left, followed by the second of the night from senior AnnaMarie Nardone (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake). Junior Katie Zambrotta (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) became the ninth Valiant to score and then assisted on the first of two goals from sophomore Bri Johnson (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) to cap off the Manhattanville scoring.

Manhattanville will play the first of five straight MAC Freedom games to end the regular season on Thursday, when the Valiants head back on the road to take on DeSales University beginning at 4 p.m.
