DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) led all players and matched her career high with five goals and six points to lead the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team to a 19-9 victory over Delaware Valley University in the teams' MAC Freedom opener on Wednesday afternoon at Robert A. Lipinski Field.
Eight different players found the net in the win for Manhattanville (6-3, 1-0 MAC Freedom), which is off to its best nine-game start since 2009 thanks to six wins in the last seven contests. Reilly led the charge with five goals and an assist, while junior
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) continued her hot play with four goals and two assists. Sophomore
Evaline Diaz (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) chipped in three goals and a game-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers as well.
The Valiants took control of the game early, scoring three of the first four goals and six of the first eight. After Reilly started the scoring 1:49 into the game, Weiss and senior
AnnaMarie Nardone (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) both scored from the eight-meter arc to put the visitors ahead by a 3-1 score. Following an Aggie score, the Valiants got three in a row from senior
Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York), Reilly and Weiss to take a 6-2 lead.
After two DelVal goals, Manhattanville closed the half with four straight goals to take a 10-4 lead into halftime. Diaz and Reilly scored less than a minute apart, and then Weiss scored twice in the final 2:21 – including a goal with one second left in the half. The Valiants finished the opening 30 minutes with a 21-13 edge in shots.
Graeleigh Lackey scored her first of the game for Delaware Valley (6-2, 0-1 MAC Freedom) to begin the second half, but Manhattanville broke the game open with eight of the next nine goals, including two goals from senior
Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) and single tallies from junior
Jennifer Machin (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) and senior
Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) during the run.
Freshman
Bella Marchiselli (Williston Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) picked up the start in goal, making nine saves to move to 3-1 on the season. Manhattanville finished the game with a 38-26 edge in shots and also had its best effort of the year from the eight-meter arc, converting on five of its eight free-position attempts.
Manhattanville will look to keep its winning ways going on Saturday, when the Valiants host Misericordia University in a key MAC Freedom battle beginning at 1 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field.
