MADISON, N.J. - The Manhattanville College men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker late on the road to undefeated Drew University Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
In the 83rd minute from eight yards out, Drew's Aiden Cserhart headed home Max Correa's cross from the right past Manhattanville (2-4) sophomore goalkeeper
Tim Carsting (Falun, Sweden/Soltorgsgymnasiet).
Cserhart scored both goals for the Rangers (6-0-1), with his first coming in the eighth minute from eight yards out with a shot into the left side of the goal. The Valiants squared the match in the 38th minute when pressure in the offensive zone resulted in a ball headed in by the Drew defense.
Manhattanville had chances at the lead before the end of the half, but freshman
Marius Nicolaysen (Oslo, Norway/Kongshavn VGS) had a shot blocked and senior
Jeff Santos (Yonkers, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) sent a header wide just seconds before halftime.
The two sides went back and forth for the first 35 minutes of the second half. Three shots apiece from Manhattanville senior
Oskar Martinsson (Orust, Sweden/Uddevalla Gymnasieskola) and sophomore teammate
Cristian Araujo (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) highlighted a combined 20-shot effort, forcing nine total saves from Carsting and Drew goalie Jason Adamo, before Cserhart's eventual game-winner. Carsting ended the match with seven saves, while Adamo finished with five.
The Valiants are back in action this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when the team hosts St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn at GoValiants.com Field.
