Women's Soccer Shut Out on the Road at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team dropped its second straight non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon, falling by a 3-0 score to SUNY New Paltz at the South Turf Field.

The Hawks spent most of the match attempting to put balls over the Valiant backline, enduring 13 offsides calls in the process. But the team was successful in putting three goals into the back of the net to remain undefeated at home this season.

New Paltz got on the scoreboard first in the 15th minute following the Hawks' first corner kick of the game, when Nicole Sheintul headed home a cross at the far post. The home team doubled its lead less than 10 minutes later on a Gabriela Cabello shot from distance.

Manhattanville responded by taking the next three shots, including on-target attempts from freshmen Jess Roman (Weston, Fla./NSU University School) and Eileen Fiore (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill), but saves by Katelyn Cordero kept the Hawks ahead. Both Cordero and Valiant sophomore Bella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made three saves in the opening half, as the Hawks held a 6-4 edge in shots.

New Paltz took seven of the eight shots in the final 45 minutes, with Beltrami adding three more saves to her ledger. Rachel Purtell scored the only goal of the half for the Hawks in the 51st minute to complete the scoring.

The Valiants will return home on Tuesday to take on Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference match beginning at 4 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field.
