Women's Soccer Blasts Past Lehman 4-0 With Second-Half Surge

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Four different Valiants scored as the Manhattanville College women's soccer team defeated Lehman College 4-0 Tuesday evening in their final matchup before the start of MAC Freedom play this weekend.

Manhattanville (3-3-1) again spread around the office against Lehman (3-6-1), as eight different Valiants have scored in just the last two games. Freshmen Jess Roman (Weston, Fla./NSU University School) and Eileen Fiore (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) led the Valiant attack with a goal and an assist each, while classmate Ashley Pacheco (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Pelham Prep) and junior Dany Swidler also scored for the home team in the win.

Swidler opened the scoring for the Valiants in the 28th minute with a free kick from 35 yards out that found space under the crossbar and over the outstretched arms of Lehman goalkeeper Rebecca Gritz. Swidler's strike was her first goal of the season. The Valiants kept the pressure on the Lehman defense in the first half, forcing five saves from Gritz, and holding Lehman to just five shots total (two on goal).

Manhattanville struck quickly in the second half, when Fiore scored just over three minutes in off assists from Roman and junior Lauren Vallarelli (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck). Pacheco made it 3-0 with her third goal of the season in the 65th minute on a strike from 25 yards out that, like Swidler's goal, found space just under the crossbar and over the outstretched arms of Gritz.

Roman added the final tally of the night with a laser from just outside the box into the left corner with 45 seconds left. The Valiants ended the match with a 15-8 advantage in shots, and an 11-2 margin in shots on goal. Sophomore Bella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made two saves to pick up her third win of the season.

The Valiants will kick off MAC Freedom Conference play against Eastern University on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in game one of a MAC Freedom tripleheader at GoValiants.com Field.
