WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team's 10-game win streak was snapped Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants lost to King's (PA.) 46-39.
Manhattanville (11-2, 2-1 MAC Freedom) shot less than 30% from the field for the first time this season while King's (8-7, 3-1 MACF) finished with a 17-3 advantage in free throws made.
Senior
Joiada Darnell (St. Albans, N.Y./Humanities and the Arts), freshman
Spencer Shore (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) and junior
Kayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) all had eight points to lead the Valiants; Darnell added a team-high 11 rebounds and a game-high five steals. McGuire failed to reach double digits for the first time this season.
King's used a 16-8 advantage in the 2
nd quarter to take a 23-14 lead at halftime and maintained at least a two-possession lead the rest of the game.
Manhattanville twice closed the gap to four in the final minute, both times after three-pointers by Shore, but the Monarchs made enough free throws down the stretch and forced turnovers on two of Manhattanville's final three possessions to hold on for the win.
Manhattanville is back in MAC Freedom action Wednesday night, when the team hosts Delaware Valley at Kennedy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
