Williams' Three Unanswered Goals Hand Women's Hockey 4-3 Loss in Non-Conference Finale

RYE, N.Y. – Despite a career-high 48 saves by junior goalie Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy), the Manhattanville College women's hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Williams Ephs Wednesday night at Playland Ice Casino.

Seniors Karly Kapur (Sparta, N.J./N.J. Colonials) and Sarah Sinning (Southold, N.Y./National Sports Academy), and junior Morgan Wilm (West Chester, Pa./Millbrook School) all scored for the Valiants, while Brynn Puppe, Amanda Reisman, Avery Dunn, and Meghan Halloran all scored for Williams (9-3-3).

Williams, coming in 8-1-3 in its last 12 games and averaging 41 shots over its previous four games, peppered Pijaca with shots early on and finally broke through at 16:02 of the opening period when Puppe scored off a feed from Halloran. Sinning answered back for Manhattanville at 18:39 of the period off a feed from Machin. Sinning's score gave her at least one point in nine of her last 11 games. Williams finished the first period with an 18-6 shot advantage.

The Valiants jumped in front at 3:37 of the 2nd period when Kapur scored off an assist from classmate Maeve O'Brien (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Fury), then extended their lead to 3-1 at 11:50 when Wilm scored just her second goal of the season off assists from classmate Ellis Smith (Buffalo, N.Y./Niagara Purple Eagles) and senior Monika Molnar (Budapest, Hungary/Vasas HC). With Williams on a 5-on-3 advantage, Reisman answered back less than two minutes after Wilm's mark, trimming Manhattanvile's lead to one heading to the third period.

Avery Dunn tied the game for the Ephs exactly three minutes into the third. After Pijaca stopped the next 17 shots, Halloran put Williams in front with 4:25 to play. The Valiants struggled to maintain possession of the puck down the stretch and didn't take a shot after Halloran's goal. Williams finished the game with a 52-17 shot advantage.

Manhattanville returns to UCHC series play for the rest of the season, starting this weekend against King's (Pa.) with puck drop in the first game scheduled for 3:30 on Saturday.
