Men's Soccer Falls to King's (Pa.) in Physical MAC Freedom Matchup

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Sophomore Marius Nicolaysen (Oslo, Norway/Kongshavn VGS) scored his fourth goal of the season and added an assist on a highlight-reel goal by freshman Jacob Zlobinsky (San Francisco, Calif./Aragon), but the Manhattanville College men's soccer team conceded a season-high three first-half goals to the King's College Monarchs in a 4-2 loss in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Saturday Oct. 13.

Nicolaysen struck first for Manhattanville (9-4, 2-2 MACF) in the 14th-minute off a header pass from freshman Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto). A foul in the box against Manhattanville led to a penalty kick goal for King's (8-4-2, 3-1 MACF) in the 17th-minute.

The Monarchs took the lead in the 42nd-minute when Ryan Romeo headed home a re-direction of Quentin Szeker-Cortes' free kick, then tacked on another goal with 15 seconds left before the half when a blocked clearance attempt led to a breakaway goal for Alexander Showalter.

After a scoreless 38 minutes to open the second half, Zlobinsky halved the Monarchs' lead in the 83rd-minute. Off a corner kick from sophomore Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil), Nicolaysen headed a ball into the box that Zlobinsky buried just inside the left post with a bicycle kick, sending the Manhattanville fans and sideline into a joint frenzy.

Zlobinsky's effort was as close as it got for the Valiants, as Will Brack pushed the Monarchs' lead back to two goals in the 89th-minute. Manhattanville freshman goalkeeper Charles Roberts (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton Township) finished with eight saves.

The Valiants continue MAC Freedom play Wednesday Oct. 17 on the road against the FDU-Florham Devils. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
