ALLENTOWN, PA – Junior
Ameerah Thomas (Norfolk, Va./Granby) scored a pair of goals for the third time this season, but it was not enough for the Manhattanville College field hockey team in a 3-2 non-conference loss to the Cedar Crest College Falcons on Sunday Oct. 14 from the FalconPlex.
Thomas scored 2:17 into the first half Sunday and 2:43 into the second half (37:43 of the match) as Manhattanville (5-9) built a 2-0 lead in a match relatively even across the stat sheet early on, as both teams had six penalty corner opportunities in the first half.
At 49:21 of the second half, moments after sophomore
Elaina Nacinovich (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) made her third save of the match, Madison Bowen scored for Cedar Crest (5-7), cutting Manhattanville's lead to one. Just over 10 minutes later, and less than two minutes after Emma Ryan made three saves for the Falcons in a 12-second span to keep the margin at one, Alexx Miller tied the game for Cedar Crest at 59:51. The game would remain tied as the teams went to overtime, the second straight day the Valiants needed extra time to decide a winner.
Following the 12
th penalty corner of the match for Cedar Crest, Annalise Unger scored the game-winning goal at 76:46. Nacinovich finished the match with six saves for Manhattanville, while Ryan finished with 10 saves for the Falcons.
