Volleyball Competes in Tri-Match at Haverford College

HAVERFORD, PA. – The Manhattanville College volleyball team took part in a tri-match Saturday afternoon, Oct. 20, against Dickinson College and host Haverford College, respectively.
 
The Valiants (7-13) took the first set against the Red Devils (10-16), but unfortunately fell in four sets, 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20). Manhattanville then faced the home court Fords (10-16) but took the three-set loss, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20).
 
Against Dickinson, the squad was led offensively by senior hitter Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) who registered another double-double with a team-high 12 kills and 12 digs. Juniors Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) and Steph Muller (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) also contributed offensively, notching nine and six kills, respectively. Rookie Sarah Camarena (Los Angeles, Calif./Sacred Heart (H.S.)) dished out a team-best 19 assists, while sophomore libero Monica Lopez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) added eight helpers and yet another match high in digs with 25. Freshman Marisela Flores (Victorville, Calif./Silverado) also added double-digits digs with 10.
 
In the first set, where the Valiants took the game, the started slow and fell down 5-1 early. Eventually Manhattanville worked its way back to within two points and trailed 10-8 before jumping out to an 8-1 run and a 16-11 lead, forcing a Red Devils' timeout. The squad controlled the rest of the set to take the 25-19 win.
 
Against Haverford, LiVolsi registered nine kills, Camarena finished with 10 assists and Lopez led all players with a match-high 21 digs.
 
Manhattanville returns to the court this Wednesday night, Oct. 24, when it closes out regular-season Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play. The Valiants play host to Delaware Valley College at Kennedy Gymnasium, with first-serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
