Arauz's Two Goals, Stifling Defense Lead to 3-0 MAC Freedom Win for Men's Soccer

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Freshman Johnny Arauz (Brentwood, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) scored his first two collegiate goals, including one less than a minute into the match, and freshman goalkeeper Charles Roberts (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton Township) posted his fifth shutout of the season, leading the Manhattanville College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over the Delaware Valley University Aggies in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom match Saturday Oct. 6.

With some fans still getting situated in their seats, Arauz scored off a throw-in from classmate Alexander Juma (Harlem, N.Y./NYC iSchool) 52 seconds after the opening whistle. Off a corner kick played out in the 12th minute, sophomore Marius Nicolaysen (Oslo, Norway/Kongshavn VGS) delivered a perfectly placed ball to the far post for senior Michael Jean-Charles (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), who sent a header to the near post for Arauz, who headed home his second of the day for Manhattanville (8-3, 1-1 MACF).

After twice being denied outstanding goal-scoring opportunities by Delaware Valley (3-8, 0-2 MACF) goalie Josh Jarrett in the first half, freshman Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) etched his name on the score sheet with an assist in the 49th minute, delivering a ball to the top of the box that junior Cristian Araujo (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) rocketed into the top right corner of the net.

The Manhattanville defense played brilliantly once again, shutting out the opposition for the sixth time in 11 matches this season. Six opponents have been held under 10 total shots in a match, seven opponents have been held under five shots on target.

The Valiants are back in action on the road at 4 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 9 against the DeSales University Bulldogs in another MAC Freedom contest.
