Johnny Arauz (Brentwood, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) scored his third goal in two matches as the Manhattanville College men's soccer team scored early, then held on late for a 1-0 road win over the DeSales University Bulldogs in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play Tuesday Oct. 9.
Arauz followed up his two-goal performance last Saturday, Oct. 6 in a 3-0 win over the Delaware Valley University Aggies with a strike from just outside the box in the fifth-minute off an assist from sophomore
Marius Nicolaysen (Oslo, Norway/Kongshavn VGS); Nicolaysen also collected an assist on Arauz's second goal last Saturday.
The story of the match, as its been for much of the season, was the defensive effort from Manhattanville (9-3, 2-1 MACF). For the seventh time this season and fifth time in their last six matches, the Valiants shut out the opposition. DeSales (5-6-1, 1-2 MACF) managed just eight total shots, two of them on goal, with one of those two shots coming on a free kick in the final minute. For the eighth time this season, the Valiants held a team to five on-target attempts or less. Through 12 matches, the Valiants have taken 101 more shots than their opponent, 61 more shots on goal.
