NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Following a 3-0 start to the season, the Manhattanville College men's basketball team suffered it's first loss of the season, falling 73-68 to Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) Tuesday, Nov. 20.
The Valiants found themselves behind early, but were able to keep the game close throughout. The team found itself down by double digits at multiple points in the first half, but was able to hang in went on a run to cut the deficit to seven points at the break.
Manhattanville then faced a 12-point deficit with just over eight minutes remaining the the game, but went on a 9-2 run to get within five points. Minutes later, following back-to-back three pointers by junior guard
JoJo Cobbs (Elmsford, N.Y./Briarcliff) and sophomore guard
Sean Smith, Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart), the Valiants cut Mount Saint Mary's lead to three points, but were unable to complete the comeback as the Knights were able to hold on for the victory.
Cobbs led the team with 20 points, and added four rebounds and three assists on the night. Sophomore guard
Mike Granda (Monroe Township, N.J./St. Joseph) had 13 points for Manhattanville and went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and freshman forward
Connor Yetman (Sydney, Australia/The Scots College (H.S.)) had six points and seven rebounds for the Valiants.
The Valiants return to action Saturday, Nov. 24, when they host Williams College at Kennedy Gym, with tip-off scheduled for scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
