PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-9 decision to St. Joseph's (L.I.) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Danzi Stadium.
Freshman
Melissa O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) paced the Valiants with three goals, while senior
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) recorded a team-high four points with two goals and two assists. Senior
Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) and freshman
Rosie DeBellis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) added two goals each for Manhattanville (2-3) as well.
DeBellis opened the scoring 2:48 into the contest when she deposited a feed from Weiss into the net. But the next four goals and six of the next seven went the way of St. Joseph's (2-3), as the home team took a 6-2 lead with 8:28 remaining in the half. Weiss and DeBellis scored to bring Manhattanville back within two, but the Golden Eagles scored the final two goals of the half to regain their four-goal lead at the half.
Manhattanville could get no closer than three goals during the final 30 minutes of play, as the home team closed the afternoon with a 5-1 run to secure the victory.
St. Joseph's ended the evening with a 42-22 edge in shots. Junior
Alex Breen (South Windsor, Conn./Kingswood Oxford School) kept the visitors in the game by turning aside a season-high 15 shots, while Lindsay Ramos made eight saves for SJC in the win.
The Valiants are slated to return to action on Saturday, when the team travels to Stockton University for a 1 p.m. matchup.
