Women's Lax Drops First MAC Freedom Contest to FDU-Florham

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team dropped a 18-5 contest to MAC Freedom frontrunner FDU-Florham on Wednesday evening at GoValiants.com Field.

Freshman Melissa O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and senior Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) led Manhattanville (6-5, 1-1 MAC Freedom) with two goals apiece, while senior Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) scored once as well. Nance became just the 11th player in school history to record 100 career goals on the day, while O'Mara's two tallies made her the 13th Valiant to score 50 goals in a season.

O'Mara opened the scoring with her 49th of the year 1:19 into the contest, but the next eight goals went the way of the Devils as FDU's defense frustrated the Valiant offensive attack. The home team scored once more in the opening half, as the visitors went into halftime with a 10-2 lead.

After O'Mara and FDU's Noelle Shirey traded goals to start the second half, seven straight FDU goals helped to close the door on the contest. FDU finished the game with a 39-17 edge in total shots and an 18-7 advantage in draw controls, forcing sophomore keeper Bella Marchiselli (Williston Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) to make 12 saves.

Manhattanville will continue MAC Freedom play on Saturday, when the Valiants host Wilkes for a key conference matchup at GoValiants.com Field beginning at 1 p.m.
