ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team suffered a 19-12 setback to Eastern University in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday afternoon at Olsen Field.
Manhattanville (7-6, 2-2 MAC Freedom) was led by senior
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), who scored a team-high six goals with an assist for seven points. Classmate
Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) added four goals and eight draw controls as well for the visitors.
Weiss opened the scoring for Manhattanville 63 seconds into the game, and the score was tied at three with 14:05 left in the half after another Weiss goal and the third of the year from sophomore
Lexy DeLeo (Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt). But Eastern (5-6, 3-1 MAC Freedom) scored five of the next six goals to take an 8-4 advantage with under eight minutes remaining in the half, and the team took that four-goal edge into halftime up 9-5.
The Valiants remained within four early in the second stanza but could not string together back-to-back tallies, and Eastern eventually went on a 6-0 run to put the game away before Manhattanville scored four of the game's final five tallies.
Eastern outshot Manhattanville by a 40-22 margin, with sophomore
Bella Marchiselli (Williston Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) keeping the Valiants close by turning aside 10 shots.
The Valiants will continue MAC Freedom play with another big contest on Saturday, when the team travels to Dallas, Pa., to take on Misericordia University beginning at 6 p.m.
