DALLAS, Pa. – Head coach
Dale Martin earned his 300th victory at the helm of the Manhattanville College softball team with a 6-1 victory in game one as the Valiants split a MAC Freedom doubleheader with Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.

With the victory, Martin increased his record to 300-156 (.658) in 12 years as head coach at Manhattanville. His 300 victories are the most of any coach in any sport at the school, while his .658 career winning percentage is the second-highest of any Valiant coach with more than five years with a team.

Junior
Desiree Buboi (Villa Park, Calif./Orange Lutheran) was the Valiants' top hitter on the day, going 3-for-6 with a homer, double, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Classmate
Sophia Chapelone (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) also had three hits in six at-bats, while graduate student
Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) homered and drove in three as well.

Game 1: Manhattanville 6, Misericordia 1

Manhattanville scored three runs in the first inning of game one and never looked back, as junior
Aarin Hartenstein (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) shut down the Cougar offense in a 6-1 victory.

Buboi and Diemicke combined for four of Manhattanville's seven hits in the win, with Buboi going 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored. Junior
Evonne Torres (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Pioneer) also homered and drove in a pair as well.

The Valiants started the game with a two-out rally in the first, as Buboi doubled to keep the inning alive and came home on a Diemicke RBI double. Torres followed that up with her seventh homer of the year to put the visitors up 3-0 after half an inning.

Manhattanville got one more in the second on another two-out base hit, this time from freshman
Isela Casillas (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake). Buboi added some more insurance in the seventh with a two-run homer, her fifth of the year.

That was more than enough offense for Hartenstein, who scattered three hits and struck out seven while allowing only one run. The junior took a no-hitter into the fourth until a two-out homer provided the Cougars' only run, and only two other Misericordia players reached scoring position for the rest of the contest.

Game 2: Misericordia 10, Manhattanville 5

The Valiants did not have the same luck in game two, as Misericordia scored seven runs in the first two innings on the way to a 10-5 win.

Chapelone and senior
Alexis Ventarola (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) both had a team-high three hits in game two, with Ventarola adding an RBI and scoring twice. Diemicke hit the lone long ball of the game as well for the visitors.

Without the services of senior
Alycia Feeney (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) for the day, Hartenstein went back to the circle in game two and did not have the same success, as the Cougars took advantage of two Valiant errors to score three times in the opening frame.

Misericordia added four more in the second before the Valiants could get on the board via a Buboi two-run single in the third. Ventarola chipped in an RBI single in the fifth and Diemicke hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the Valiants to complete their scoring.

Hartenstein suffered the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in one-plus innings of work. Freshman
Jasmine Feliciano (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) performed well in relief for the Valiants, allowing one run on four hits over the final 3.2 innings.

The Valiants return to action on Tuesday, when they head to Randalls Island to take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent for two games starting at 3:30 p.m.
