PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville College women's soccer team dropped its season opener Friday afternoon, Aug. 31, falling by a score of 1-0 to University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on a rainy day at GoValiants.com Field.
The Valiants (0-1-0) weren't without chances, as they were able to get 11 shots away throughout the game, but were only able to land four on goal — USJ junior goalkeeper Megan Ricci stopped all four attempts. The Blue Jays attempted 16 shots and were able to put 11 of them on goal, with that advantage helping to put them over the top.
USJ senior Morgan Skoly scored the lone goal of the afternoon in the 48th minute, when graduate student Jessica Spezzano fed her on a pass that put Skoly one-on-one with the Valiants' freshman goalkeeper
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). Skoly put away a shot that Pyatsky was able to get a piece of, but not enough to keep it out of the net.
Pyatsky played well in her first collegiate game, making 10 saves on the after afternoon and giving the Valiants a chance, but Ricci was able to stop everything that came her way, making four saves and earning the victory for the Blue Jays.
The Valiants return to action Wed. Sept. 5 at GoValiants.com Field, taking on Drew University at 4:00 p.m.
