BRYN ATHYN, PA. — The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team continued its successful start to the 2018 season Saturday, Sept. 1. The Valiants took part in a tri-match at Bryn Athyn College along with New Jersey City University, sweeping both squads in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18 vs. Bryn Athyn; 25-18, 25-19, 25-7 vs. NJCU).
In the first match against Bryn Athyn (0-2), rookie setter
Sarah Camarena (Los Angeles, Calif./Sacred Heart (H.S.)) notched her first-career double-double (match-high 24 assists, 11 digs) in just her second collegiate appearance. Sophomore libero
Monica Lopez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) was a defensive rock once again, leading all players with 21 digs. Hitters senior
Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) (10 kills) and junior
Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) (nine kills) led the way offensively for Manhattanville (3-0).
Against the Gothic Knights (1-1), Brauer led the way once again, this time with a match-best 12 kills and two service aces. Camarena dished out 12 helpers to go along with a match-high four service aces. Sophomore setter
Rosie DeBellis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) was right behind with 11 assists, while LiVolsi finished with 12 digs, nine kills and three service aces. Lopez notched a team-high 14 digs and five assists.
Manhattanville now breaks for the long weekend before returning to action on the road in New York City. The Valiants will venture to the Upper East Side of Manhattan Wednesday, Sept. 5 for a battle at Hunter College. First-serve between Manhattanville and the Hawks is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
