PURCHASE, N.Y. — Rookie goalkeeper
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) had yet another stellar performance for the Manhattanville College women's soccer team, making 14 saves in net, but the Valiants were defeated 2-0 by Kean University Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 12, on a rainy day at GoValiants.com Field.
Kean (2-2-2) spent a large amount of time in the Manhattanville (1-3) defensive zone, but Pyatsky's performance kept the Valiants in the game throughout the day. Taylor Muce started things off for the Cougars, beating Pyatsky to the right on a breakaway in the 24th minute. The second goal also came from Kean in the first half, this time off the foot of Brittany Birth in the 36th minute via a penalty, which was due to a handball foul in the box for Manhattanville.
The Valiants managed two shots on net Wednesday, including a first half chance which they almost converted. The attempt came off the foot of sophomore midfielder
Ashley Pacheco (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Pelham Prep) in the seventh minute. Pacheco slipped passed the defense and was nearly even with the goal line, but was able to send the ball in front. It went through the Kean keeper's hands but rolled just wide to the left of the net.
Manhattanville will return to the pitch Sunday afternoon, Sept. 16, on the road at SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, N.Y.
