NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — The Manhattanville College women's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss on the road at SUNY New Paltz Saturday afternoon, Sept. 15. The Valiants kept the Hawks quiet the majority of the match, but the home squad was able to sneak one across the goal line with just under 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
Rookie keeper
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was in net once again for the Valiants (1-5-0) and made two saves on three shots on goal, but was unfortunately slated with the loss once more. Sophomores
Eileen Fiore (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and
Ashley Pacheco (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Pelham Prep) led Manhattanville's offense versus New Paltz (2-5-0), combining for the Valiants three shots on the day, all of which landed on net — Hawks' goalie Megan Tornatore was able to stop all of them for the shutout.
Manhattanville played solid defense throughout the contest, also allowing just three shots on goal. Things were locked in a stalemate for both squads until the 77nd minute when the Hawks' Raven Blake was able to get one past Pyatsky for the game's lone score.
The Valiants return to the pitch Thursday night, Sept. 20, when they travel slightly south to Bronxville, N.Y. for a matchup with future Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence College. Kickoff against the Gryphons is schedule for 7:00 p.m.
