SPARKILL, N.Y. – Senior
Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y./Rye) scored 1:51 into overtime, giving the Manhattanville College field hockey team a 2-1 victory over the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Spartan Field.
Sophomore
Lexi Crites (Middleboro, Mass./Kents Hill School) and Antinozzi scored for the Valiants (2-5), who defeated the Spartans (2-7) for the fourth straight season. Jacqueline Dowling scored for St. Thomas Aquinas. At 8:35 of the first half, shortly after one of Manhattanville's six penalty corners of the opening frame, Crites buried her third goal of the season off a feed from junior
Robin Boot (Bedum, Netherlands/H.N. Werkman College). Just over five minutes later, off the lone Spartans' penalty corner of the half, Dowling added her third goal of the year. Manhattanville had five penalty corners over the final 20+ minutes of the half, but St. Thomas Aquinas goalie Suzanne Clarke made two saves, keeping the match tied at the half.
Despite four penalty corners for each team in the second half, both Clarke and Manhattanville freshman
Zoe Fillebrown (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) combined for five saves, three from Fillebrown, sending the game to overtime. Antinozzi's game-winner gave Fillebrown earned her first collegiate victory.
Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play begins for the Valiants on Saturday, Sept. 22, with a 1:00 p.m. start on the road against the reigning MAC Freedom Tournament champion Misericordia University Cougars.
