PURCHASE, N.Y. – Three goals from three program newcomers in less than three minutes keyed a 4-0 victory for the Manhattanville College men's soccer team over the Farmingdale State College Rams on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from GoValiants.com Field.
Manhattanville (5-2) finished with a 3-1 advantage in shots (24-8) and shots on goal (13-4), highlighted by a 17-4 shot advantage, 12-1 in attempts on goal, over Farmingdale State (3-3) in the first half. Junior
Cristian Araujo (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season, while transfer junior
Tom Skinner (Fleet, United Kingdom/Calthorpe Park) added his first goal as a Valiant, and freshmen
Dylan Akay (Newton, Pa./Council Rock North) and
Daniel Lombardo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) added their first collegiate goals.
After Araujo had an earlier goal waved off, the midfielder scored the first goal of the match in the ninth minute off an assist from sophomore
Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil). After a foul in the box, Akay scored on a penalty kick in the 37th minute for a 2-0 Manhattanville lead.
Just 72 seconds after Akay's penalty kick, Skinner made it 3-0 with a shot from just outside the 18-yard box off a beautiful long ball from freshman defender
Nick Williams (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny). Lombardo made it 4-0 with a well-struck volley from just inside the 18-yard box 86 seconds after Skinner's strike.
Both teams managed a single shot on goal in the second half. In all, 13 Valiants attempted at least one shot, with 10 managing at least one attempt on goal. Freshman
Charles Roberts (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton Township) stopped all four Rams' attempts on goal for his third shutout in his first six collegiate starts.
The Valiants begin a three-match road trip this Saturday, Sept. 22, with a 4 p.m. kickoff against the Marywood Pacers.
