Nicolaysen Scores Two for Men's Soccer in 3-0 Win Over Marywood

SCRANTON, PA – Sophomore Marius Nicolaysen (Oslo, Norway/Kongshavn VGS) netted the first two goals of his Valiant career as the Manhattanville College men's soccer team posted its second shutout of the week and fourth of the season, blanking the Marywood University Pacers 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 22 from Pacer Field.

Manhattanville (6-2) dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Marywood (1-5) 21-7, including a 12-5 advantage in attempts on goal, while taking nine corner kicks to the Pacers' one.

Nicolaysen registered the first goal of the match in the 21st minute with a header from about 12 yards out to the right corner off an assist from freshman Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto). The Diaz-to-Nicolaysen combination struck again just under eight minutes later when Nicolaysen blasted one home from the top of the 18-yard box; Nicolaysen scored on his only two shots of the match.

Manhattanville's defense flexed its collective muscle in the first half, holding Marywood without a shot over the final 23:02. The Valiants put the game away for good in the 75th minute when freshman Jacob Zlobinsky (San Francisco, Calif./Aragon) scored his second goal of the season from just outside the box off an assist from classmate Dylan Akay (Newton, Pa./Council Rock North).

Freshman Charles Roberts (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton Township) made five saves to preserve the shutout, lowering his goals against average for the season to .59.

The Valiants are back in action on Monday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs. The team concludes its three-match road trip in its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener next Saturday, Sept. 29, at 4:00 p.m. against the Eastern University Eagles.
