CAMBRIDGE, MASS. -- The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team had a tough day Saturday afternoon, Sept. 22, at a tri-match hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Valiants were defeated by the Coast Guard Academy 3-1 (16-25, 25-14, 25-13, 25-18) in a neutral match earlier in the day, but then fell to the hosting and 22nd-ranked Engineers in three sets, 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15).
Manhattanville (7-4) started out the day strong, winning the first set against Coast Guard (14-2), but there was no luck to be found from there as the Valiants lost their remaining five sets of the day.
Senior hitter
Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) finished the day with a total of 16 kills -- 11 vs. Coast Guard -- and 17 digs -- 10 vs. MIT (13-2). Sophomore libero
Monica Lopez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) notched 17 digs against Coast Guard and 10 against the Engineers, while rookie
Marisela Flores (Victorville, Calif./Silverado) also spent some time as the libero throughout the day, including 16 digs against Coast Guard. Freshman setter
Sarah Camarena (Los Angeles, Calif./Sacred Heart (H.S.))Â notched a double-double against Coast Guard, her third of the season, with 11 assists and 10 digs.
The Valiants will return to action against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opponent DeSales University Wednesday, Sept. 26, on the road in Center Valley, Pa. First-serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
